Western Consolidated Cooperative (West-Con) of Appleton, MN was the recipient of a loan to expand its grain storage facility courtesy of an Agralite Electric Cooperative REED Fund loan. West-Con’s expansion is phase 2 of a multi-year project that added over 2.75 million bushels of storage and expanded its rail loading facility. The final phase will add an additional 750,000 bushels of storage to accommodate storage for three crops, wheat, corn and soybeans. West-Con employs 100 people and expects to add 2 additional well-paying jobs with benefits with this phase. Appleton is home to 1,400 people. Whetstone Valley Electric Cooperative’s REED fund also assisted West-Con’s agronomy expansion near Corona, SD in 2005.
