The Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) releasedGross Domestic Product (GDP) by State in mid-June and South Dakota’s GDP continued to climb in 2015. The state’s GDP grew $1.07 billion to an estimated $46.67 billion from 2014 to 2015, a rate of 2.36%. Nationally, GDP increased 3.47% to $17.8 trillion.

Our growth in 2015 was not as brisk as recent years, ranking 38th in the nation. The slowing pace is mostly attributable to the agriculture sector taking a hit for the second year in a row with a 15.7% decline over 2014 numbers. Mining also decreased in 2015.
